Under-screen fingerprint OLED is easy to burn screen, Samsung’s new patent is expected to be resolved

OLED is an organic light-emitting diode. The principle is to drive the organic film itself to emit light by current. It belongs to the surface light source technology. It can independently control the brightness and darkness of each display pixel to realize the screen display function. But the OLED screen is not perfect, and even has a fatal flaw-burning screen, especially the OLED screen equipped with fingerprints under the screen. The under-screen fingerprint sensor obtains fingerprint information based on the light output of the screen. However, as the number of times the mobile phone acquires fingerprints increases, the probability of screen burn-in increases greatly, and it occurs in the area of the under-screen fingerprint recognition sensor.

As a major OLED screen manufacturer, Samsung had a headache for the screen burning problem, so it began to develop corresponding countermeasures, and finally made some progress. Recently, Samsung applied for a new patent called "Electronic Device to Prevent Screen Burning". From the patent name, it is known that this is specifically used to solve the problem of smartphone screen burning due to fingerprint recognition under the screen.

According to the introduction of Samsung's patent, the main cause of the screen burn has a great relationship with the brightness of the screen. Samsung's solution is simple and straightforward, which is to reduce the screen burn-in phenomenon by adjusting the brightness of the screen in the fingerprint sensor area. When the user's finger touches this area, the screen first emits 300 lux of brightness. If the screen brightness is not enough to obtain fingerprint information, the mobile phone will gradually increase the brightness of the area until the mobile phone can obtain fingerprint information.

It should be noted that at present, Samsung has only submitted patents, and it is still unknown whether and when it will be commercialized.
