What Do You Care About Most When It Comes To Cellphone Display?

Smartphones show differences in display as the difference in the quality between entry-level devices and high-end flagship phones. Among resolution, screen type and color reproduction, there are many factors that can affect the ability to produce an excellent mobile display.

It can be said that 2020 is a year related with a high refresh rate, because brands choose to use this technology to provide a smoother experience. However, Oppo also became a hot topic of discussion when it announced that its Find X3 flagship product will provide full 10-bit color support when it is launched in 2021.

Therefore, we wonder which factor are users care most about when it comes to the cellphone screen. Some survey agencies have recently released their polls.

What do you care most about the smart phone display?

A poll released on November 18, and as of today, 1,415 votes have been received. Less than 39% of respondents said that the refresh rate is their most concerned display-related function. We have seen a large number of mobile phones using this feature, which can achieve smoother gameplay in supported titles and smoother scrolling overall. This is an understandable choice, but a high refresh rate may come at the cost of increased power consumption.

Display technologies (such as OLED or LCD) ranked second with 28.3% of the votes. This is another understandable choice, as there must be a major difference between OLED and LCD screens. In fact, previous surveys found that more than two-thirds of respondents would choose 60Hz OLED panels on high refresh rate LCD screens.

Resolution and color reproduction/color gamut are in the third and fourth places, respectively. The former is very interesting because it shows that these screens are usually clear enough for most users today. We also want to know whether color reproduction will attract more users in 2021, because Oppo may not be the only Android OEM Brand pursuing this technology.

Finally, size and “other” are in the fifth and last places. Only 6.4% of the respondents voted for the former factor, which may not be a good sign for those who want a compact smartphone.

What’s your view regarding the results? When looking for a smartphone screen, which factor matters first to you?
