During December of last year, during the fourth Snapdragon Technology Summit of Qualcomm, Qualcomm announced some 5G iPhone related information.
According to reports at the time, Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said: "The number one priority for building this relationship with Apple is how to launch their phones as quickly as possible, which is a priority."
Previous reports have also shown that the new 5G iPhone should use an antenna module provided by Qualcomm. Recently, sources from insiders said that Apple does not seem to use antenna modules from Qualcomm.
According to related news, Apple is considering whether to apply QTM 525 5G millimeter wave antenna module from Qualcomm on the new iPhone.
The main reason for this is that the antenna module provided by Qualcomm does not conform to Apple's usual industrial design style. So Apple will start developing antenna modules that fit its design style.
In this way, the new generation of 5G iPhone will be equipped with Qualcomm's 5G modem and Apple's own designed antenna module combination.
It is said that this antenna module that Apple is trying to design independently has some difficulties, because the design of the antenna module can directly affect the performance of 5G performance.
If the antenna module and the 5G modem chip cannot be closely linked together, there will be uncertainty that cannot be ignored for the operation of the new machine 5G.
Of course, in order to ensure the arrival of the 5G iPhone as scheduled, Apple still has an alternative.
According to the news, this alternative comes from Qualcomm, which uses a combination of Qualcomm's 5G modem and Qualcomm antenna module.
This solution can better guarantee 5G performance, but in this case Apple will have to change the appearance of the already designed 5G iPhone to increase the thickness of the fuselage.
Such design changes are difficult for Apple to accept.
Based on the above reasons, it seems understandable that Apple chose to develop its own antenna module.
In addition, Apple's pursuit of self-research has not been relaxed. Although the 5G iPhone coming this year will use a 5G modem from Qualcomm, Apple's own chips are also being developed.
However, if you want to purchase an iPhone with Apple's self-developed 5G modem and antenna module, you should wait for a while.
